Would anyone buy a used car from a salesman, based solely on their word, without checking the oil, the tires, and driving it to make sure the transmission changes properly, and the brakes will stop the car? Well, of course not. Then why do so many trust their eternal soul, our most precious possession (Matt. 16:26), to what some preacher tells them, without checking it against the truth of God’s Holy Word? We can get ripped off on a used car deal, but all we have lost is time and money. When we trust a preacher, or anyone else, on the salvation of our soul, we can lose heaven and condemn our soul to an eternity in hell. When it comes to the salvation of our precious soul, we should and must question everything.

How many times have we heard it said, “follow your heart” or “let your heart be your guide”? God’s Truth: The human heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, who can know it (Jer. 17:9)? The human heart really doesn’t sound like a reliable guide, now does it?

When someone tells us to join the church of our choice, as there are thousands, and they’re all heaven bound. God’s Truth: The Lord only promised to build one church, His church. (Matt. 16:18). One cannot join His church, for the only way into His church is to be added by the Lord himself (Acts 2:47). Check it out.

What if someone tells us we can be saved by simply reciting a prayer and asking Jesus into our hearts? God’s Truth: Nowhere in God’s Word can this concept be found, nor one example of anyone being saved by this means. Likewise, the so called “sinner’s prayer” cannot be found anywhere in the pages of God’s Holy Writ. This notion is false, check it out.

We have all heard it said, over and over again, baptism is not necessary for salvation. God’s Truth: Baptism is commanded (Acts 10:48). Baptism is authorized by Jesus Christ (Mark 16:16).

Baptism is for the forgiveness of sin (Acts 2:38). Baptism is necessary to get into Christ (Gal. 3:27). Baptism is immersion in water (Acts 8:38). There is only one baptism (Eph. 4:5). We are saved by baptism (I Peter 3:21).The blood of Christ cleanses us from all sin (I John 1:7). Baptism washes away our sins (Acts 22:16), so therefor it stands to reason, baptism is where we contact the cleansing blood of Christ. There is no way one can be saved before baptism, while retaining their sins. There is not a single conversion, under the new testament of Christ, that does not include baptism. Check it out.

Another thing we often hear is that it is not necessary to be in the church to be saved. God’s Truth: The church and the body of Christ are one and the same (Eph.1:22-23). Christ is the savior of the body, which is the church (Eph. 5:23). One simply cannot be saved outside the body of Christ (I John 5:11,12).

The conclusion of the whole matter; We must follow God’s Word, not our heart. God has a plan for responding to the gospel of Jesus Christ, and no other plan will be successful. There is but one church that Jesus built. When we are baptized for remission of sins, God adds us to that church. Jesus Christ is the savior of the body, which is the church of the living God. If we are outside His body, we are lost. The plan of salvation is simple and straight forward: Hear (Rom. 10:14), Believe (Heb. 11:6), Repent (Luke 13:3,5), Confess (Rom 10:9,10), Be baptized (Mark 16:16,Acts 2:38), Live godly until death (Rev. 2:10), and we will receive a crown of eternal life in heaven. Question any other plan, that comes not from God, like the destination of your eternal soul depends upon it, because it does.
