Douglas Shelton Piper, age 77, of Russellville, Ky., passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Ky.

He was a Logan County native born March 6, 1942, to the late Leland Herndon Piper and Ila Louise Shelton Piper.

He was a United States Army veteran and an inspector for Emerson Electric. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlene Akin Piper; two brothers, Larry Piper of Allensville, Ky. and his twin, Donald Piper and wife Bonnie of Russellville, Ky.; two sisters, Kathryn Stuart of Russellville, Ky. and Louise Whalen and husband Jim of Charlotte, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Douglas Shelton Piper were conducted Sunday, June 2 at 2 p.m. at Summers, Kirby and Sanders Funeral Home with Bro. Kenny Chyle officiating. Burial followed in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation began at the funeral home Saturday, June 1 from 5-8 p.m. and Sunday, June 2 from 8 a.m. until the service hour of 2 p.m.

Pallbearers are Jimmy Stuart, John Stuart, Ralph Piper, Dodd Piper, Bryan Piper, Michael Whalen, Timmy Piper, Stanley Slaton, Stewart Slaton, and Shawn Slaton. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Cardwell, Donald Piper, Donald Miller, Mike Flowers, James Robert Sanford, Larry Drake, and Frank Castile.

Memorial donations may be made to the Woodlawn Baptist Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
