The Logan County High School boys' soccer team won the District 14 tournament at home on Thursday night by knocking off arch-rival Russellville 5-0.

It was the first district championship for the Cougars since 2016. The past two seasons, Logan County lost to Franklin-Simpson in the district championship game.

With the win, Logan County advanced to the Region Tournament. They are scheduled to play tonight against the winner of Glasgow and South Warren at 8 p.m. at Bowling Green High School.

As district runners-up, the Panthers also advanced to the Fourth Region Tournament. They were scheduled to play Barren County on Tuesday.

In the girls' district championship game, homestanding Logan County was shocked in overtime by Franklin-Simpson.

The Lady Cougars were the defending district champs, but fell when Franklin-Simpson's Kate Norwood scored on a free kick in overtime to end the game at 5-4. Senior Peyton Vanzant scored three of the Lady Cougars' goals and sophomore Kadyn Costello scored the other.

Logan County advanced to the region tournament as district runners up and were scheduled to play Greenwood on Monday night.
