Logan County claimed victory in the first Clash of the Cats of the season on Friday night. The Russellville Panthers traveled to Logan County High School for a doubleheader in front of a packed house. The final score from the girls matchup was 66-50 in favor of the Lady Cougars. The Cougars beat the Panthers 72-37 in the boys game.

The ladies tipped first on Friday night. The opening quarter was back and forth with both rival schools trading buckets. At the end of one, it was Logan County with a slim 16-14 lead. The next frame was played in the same fashion. The Lady Cougars and Lady Panthers each matched the point total they scored in the first quarter. It was 32-28 at the half.

The Lady Cougars widened the gap in the 3rd and took an eight-point lead into the 4th quarter. Logan would win by 16 points, 66-50.

A'miyah Collier led all scorers with 27 points. The Lady Cougars had three players reach double-digits. Kennedy Nichols put up 23. Peyton Vanzant scored 19. Kadyn Costello finished with 16 points in the win.

Logan County improves to (7-9) with the win. They are (3-0) in the 13th District.

Russellville is (10-5) overall but (0-2) against district opponents.

The boys game belonged to Logan County from the start. The Cougars scored 26 points in the first period to take a commanding 26-5 lead after the first eight minutes. Rooster Woodard had 11 points in the first quarter.

The Cougars kept the heat on for the second frame, scoring 21 more before the break. It was 47-20 at the half.

Russellville was unable to make a comeback and fell 72-37.

Jay Hardison had 21 points for Logan County. Rooster Woodard finished with 20. Dalton Thompson scored 11 in the victory.

Jaquis Todd led the way for the Panthers with 14 points. Kendahl Edmonds dropped nine, while Devan Kimbrough finished with eight.

Logan County is (13-3) on the season. They are the only undefeated team in 4th Region play (6-0.) The Cougars are (3-0) in the 13th District.

Russellville drops to (4-8) for the year.
