The Fourth Region tournament is underway at Western Kentucky University’s Diddle Arena this week. Both Logan County teams picked up wins in the first round of play. The Lady Cougars beat Metcalfe County 53-50 on Monday. The Cougars defeated Cumberland County 79-58 on Tuesday.

The Lady Cougars jumped out to an early 13-6 lead after the first period. Logan County never surrendered that lead, although Metcalfe County tied the game late in the 4th quarter.

At the half, Logan County led 25-17. The Lady Cougars were 10-for-29 in first half field goal shooting compared to Metcalfe County’s 6-for-33.

Going into the 4th period, the score was 42-32. Metcalfe County stormed back and tied the score briefly causing Logan County fans some grief in the stands. Peyton Vanzant came through at the free throw line and helped seal the win for LC. The final was 53-50.

Kennedy Nichols had 16 points and 17 rebounds and earned player of the game honors. Peyton Vanzant finished with 13 points and went 6-for-6 at the free throw line. Addie White and Paige Vanzant added nine points each. in the win.

The Lady Cougars (16-16) will play Bowling Green (26-6) tonight at WKU.

The Cougars played Cumberland County on Tuesday for first round 4th Region action. Although Cumberland tried to make a run in the 2nd half, Logan County held on to easily win 79-58.

The Cougars went up 15-0 before the Panthers of Cumberland County ever scored their first points of the night. At the end of the first, it was already 22-6. Logan stretched it out to 44-26 by the break. They shot 55% in field goal attempts in the first half. The Panthers outscored the Cougars in the third period, 20-16. Logan finished strong by putting up 19 points in the 4th to seal it.

Jose Nazario put up 20 points on Cumberland County. Dalton Thompson finished just behind him with 16. Dylan Basham hit for 12, and Rooster Woodard scored ten.

Logan County (28-3) will play Bowling Green (25-7) on Monday. The two teams have not met this season.
