Both the Logan County teams got off to perfect starts to open the 2019 season. The Cougars and Lady Cougars each picked up opening-day wins at Logan County High School on Monday.

The Cougars took the field against South Warren on Monday evening. The Spartans struck first, plating two in the second inning. Logan County looked to be in a deep hole after South Warren scored another pair in the top of the sixth to make it 4-1.

The Cougars got a single with one out in the bottom of the sixth. After another single and walk, Logan County picked up another run on the bases-loaded walk. It was 4-2 with one more chance for the Cougars.

The bottom of the seventh started with an error by South Warren. Nick Woodall was then hit by a pitch. Braxton Meguiar singled to right to load the bases with no outs. Rooster Woodard scored on a fielder's choice to short. Koby Wall reached on an error, which tied the score at four each with one out.

Dylan Penick walked to load the bases once again. The game ended on an error by the catcher. Third Bell scored the winning run. The Cougars started the season with a 5-4 win. The winning pitcher was Koby Wall. Riley Ferguson started the game and struck out eight.

On Tuesday, the Cougars beat Greenwood, 5-3. Dylan Penick pitched five innings and got nine strikeouts.

The Lady Cougars hosted Butler County on Monday.

They got the win, 11-1. Logan County picked up five runs in the bottom of the third inning. The 5-0 lead put the home team in firm control.

Shelby Gettings smacked the first home run of the 2019 season. The bomb came in the bottom of the fourth inning. The 3-run shot started what would become a six-run inning for Logan County.

Presley Harris, Abby Canler, KJ Page, and Jillian McLellan each hit doubles in the game. Shelby Gettings got the win in the circle, throwing five innings and only allowing one run.

On Tuesday, the ladies beat McLean County 15-5.

Kennedy Nichols hit a home run and had six RBIs in the game. Sydney Lee, Shelby Gettings, and KJ Page each hit doubles. Gettings had four hits.

The Lady Cougars will play in the Franklin-Simpson Lady Cat Classic this weekend at Buchanon Park.

The Cougars play in Glasgow on Saturday.
