On Friday, July 24, 2020, at 3:07 p.m., the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a theft in progress.

Corey Stratton had called Logan County Emergency Communications Center and said that a female he knows as Amy Marshall had pulled into his driveway, parked beside his house and started rummaging through his unlocked vehicle, according to a police report.

Stratton told the ECC that Marshall, 42, of Russellville, had left his property when he counfronted her and that she was headed south toward Russellville.

Deputy Jason Brent arrived in the area of Morgantown Road at Kims Court and saw Marshall in the red Mercedes identified by the victim.

Brent turned to catch up with the vehicle at Morgantown Road and Old 79 Loop. According to the police report, Marshall failed to stop for Brent’s emergency lights and continued travelling south to the area of Morgantown Road and Bismark Lane, where she pulled into the right emergency lane and made a U-turn to head back north.

Brent turned and continued his pursuit. Marshall then made an abrupt left turn into the Willow Creek Mennonite Church and exited the car while it was still in motion. The car continued at a low rate of speed until it struck a retaining wall.

Marshall was taken into custody without further incident. She was arrested and lodged in the Logan County Detention Center on charges of theft by unlawful taking (under $500), reckless driving, DUI first degree, failure of owner to maintain insurance, criminal trespassing, fleeing or evading police and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle.

Brent was assisted on the scene by Agent Cody Fox, Detective Laura Casey, Sheriff Stephen Stratton and Logan County EMS.
