An Auburn man lost his life in an automobile accident Sunday, May 12 on Cave Springs Road; his passenger life-flighted to Nashville, Tenn.

Mark A. McLean, 53, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Logan County Coroner Mary Givens after he lost control of his 1998 Honda Civic due to unknown factors, according to the Logan County Sheriff's Department.

The vehicle left the road, struck a large tree, along with several other smaller trees before coming to rest down a steep embankment.

Ethan W. Hunter, 19, of Adairville was a passenger in the vehicle and had to be extracted. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was flown by Air Evac to TriStar Skyline Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

Deputy Josh Toomey is the investigating officer. He was assisted on scene by Logan County EMS and both the Auburn and Russellville Rural Fire Departments.

On Monday, May 13, deputies from the Logan County Sheriff's Department responded to a tractor accident on 68-80 Bowling Green Road.

The investigation revealed that a 2004 Case tractor, operated by 43-year-old Paul J. Coles of Auburn, had been traveling westbound in the slow lane when a 2013 Chrysler van, operated by 31-year-old Laura F. Vaughan of Lewisburg, struck the rear end of the tractor with the front end of her vehicle causing severe damage to both.

Coles was transported to Greenview Hospital in Bowling Green for treatment of his injuries. Vaughan was transported to the Medical Center in Bowling Green for treatment of her injuries.

Assisting the sheriff's department on the scene were Logan County EMS and the Auburn Fire Department.
