This weekend, Russellville High School will be hosting its 40th annual "Show of Bands" at historic Rhea Stadium.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday and will feature seven competing bands.

"This year is our 40th Show of Bands, we would like to encourage any RHS band alumni to attend and celebrate with us," said Russellville band director Brian Brown. "While we have seven competing bands from across Western Kentucky we will have a special performance by the Murray State University Racer Band. There are several RHS Alumni currently in the Racer Band, so this will be a homecoming of sorts for them."

The first band will perform at 6 p.m. Participating competitive bands (in order of performance) are Dawson Springs, Warren Central, Logan County, South Warren, Apollo, Grayson County and Meade County. Russellville's band will perform at

8:15 p.m., followed by the Racer band.

"This year's Panther Band show is 'Dreams You Dare to Dream,'" Brown said. "It is based on the tune 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow,' and follows a little girl who is caught up in her own dreams. It is a really cool show and the most challenging we've done. However, because of their hard work and great attitude, the students are handling the challenges very well. We anticipate having a very successful season."

Brown added that none of this could be possible without the help of the band parents.

"Of course, a big part of our success is due in part to the parents that support these students through fundraising, fitting uniforms, building props, keeping equipment functioning and feeding this band," Brown said. "There is no way we could do half of what we do without the RHS Band Boosters, and the administration here at Russellville."
