Logan County Good Samaritan in conjunction with Feeding America and Anthem Insurance will be hosting a drive-through free produce give-away Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 9 a.m. at the Logan County Extension Complex, 255 John Paul Road, Russellville.

This event is funded by Anthem Insurance, with Feeding America obtaining produce and Good Samaritan acting as a distributor. There will be a representative from Anthem set up Wednesday to answer any insurance questions.

The give-a-way is helping to supplement hunger-relief agencies in the area.

Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland, serves those in need by acquiring and distributing donated food, grocery items, and government commodities throughout almost 16,000 square miles of Kentucky. The organization serves 42 of Kentucky’s counties through a network of more than 225 partner agencies.

Since its establishment in 1982, Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland has distributed more than 280 million pounds of food and grocery items at a retail value of $476 million throughout central, south-central, and western Kentucky — which equates to approximately 13.5 million meals and counting. The non-profit’ss vision is that no one will go to bed hungry in its service area, and Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland strives every day to make that vision a reality.

Logan County’s Good Samaritan is continually partnering with agencies who can help its citizens meet their needs.

“We at Logan County Good Samaritan are proud to partner with Anthem and Feeding America to bring this to the people of Logan County. Everyone could use a little help right now so this is a welcome addition to our distributions,” said Denise McDonald, Executive Director of Logan County Good Samaritan.

This free event will be open to all Logan County residents. You must bring a Logan County ID or mail to participate. Organizers ask participants NOT to arrive before 8:30 a.m.
