An 88-year-old Auburn woman died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident last week.

On Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, shortly after 9 a.m., deputies from the Logan County Sheriff's Department responded to a two-vehicle accident with injuries near Auburn at the Montgomery exit.

According to a police report, a car operated by 88-year-old Emma Hansford of Auburn pulled out of the intersection and into the path of a vehicle operated by Michael Claywell of Oakland.

The vehicles collided in the intersection, causing both to cross over into the opposite lane.

Hansford was transported by Logan County EMS to the Medical Center for her injuries. She later passed away from her injuries while being transported to Vanderbilt University Hospital.

A passenger in the Claywell vehicle, 50-year-old Sheri Sowards of Lewisburg, was transported by Logan County EMS to The Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

The Logan County Sheriff's Department was assisted on the scene by the Auburn Fire Department and Logan County EMS.
