An Auburn man was arrested recently for attempting to steal property at the Auburn Wastewater Treatment Plant.

On Thursday, Aug. 29 at approximately 2:56 p.m. officer BJ Ferguson of the Auburn Police Department responded to a trespassing complaint at the plant located on 334 East Main Street.

Upon arrival, officer Ferguson observed Gary Dewayne Doepel, 49, loading items onto a trailer in an attempt to steal them. Doepel had made illegal entry into a building on the property to retrieve the items.

During the investigation, Doepel was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

As a result of the incident, Doepel was arrested and lodged in the Logan County Detention Center under charges of criminal trespassing second degree, burglary third degree, tampering with physical evidence, alcohol intoxication in a public place, and theft by unlawful taking under $500.

Officer Ferguson was assisted on the scene by the Logan County Sheriff's Department.
