As of Wednesday, Oct. 14, well over 99.9% of housing units have been accounted for in the 2020 Census. Self-response and field data collection operations for the 2020 Census will conclude on Oct. 15, 2020.

Nonresponse follow-up census takers will continue resolving nonresponding addresses through the end of the day on Oct. 15, 2020.

The U.S. Census Bureau is currently updating 2020Census.gov, Census.gov, as well as all external and internal guidance, to reflect the schedule update.

The U.S. Constitution mandates a census of the population every 10 years. The 2020 Census counts everyone who lived in the U.S. on April 1, 2020. Census statistics help determine the number of seats each state holds in the U.S. House of Representatives and how billions of dollars in federal funds will be allocated by state, local, and federal lawmakers every year for the next 10 years.
