An accident involving an Amish horse and buggy occurred Wednesday, March 18 at the intersection of Rogers and Sunset Drive in Auburn.

According to Auburn Police, Amos Mast, 59, of Auburn made a left turn directly in the path of a vehicle driven by Michael Watkins, 35, also of Auburn.

Barbara Miller, three, and Mary Ann Miller, two, were passengers in the buggy and Kassandra Rich, 30, was a passenger in the Watkins vehicle.

At the time officers arrived at the scene, Amos Miller was with the damaged buggy and injured horse, however, the two small children were no longer there but had been taken to another location.

A witness at the incident reported that the three-year-old child riding in the buggy had been ejected at impact and was run over by the buggy wheel. The two children were eventually located on Price Road, however, the adults responsible for them refused treatment, saying they would be checked by a private clinic.

Logan County EMS transported Rich to Logan Memorial Hospital for her injuries where she was treated and released.

Assisting the Auburn Police Department on the scene was the Logan County Sheriff’s Department and the Auburn Fire Department.

The horse was removed by the owner with minor injuries while the buggy had to have a wheel replaced. The Watkins vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
