Alberta Marie “Bert” Metzger, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at Creekwood Place Nursing Home in Russellville, Ky.

A native of Poseyville, Ind., she graduated from Poseyville High School and attended Lockyear’s Business School in Evansville, Ind. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who dedicated her life to God and her family. After the childrearing years, she worked as a sales clerk, receptionist, secretary and book keeper but she was most proud of her Assistant Banking Officer position with BB&T from which she retired.

Bert, as she was known to her friends, loved arts & crafts, playing Canasta, spending time at Barren River Lake, board games, yard sales, and serving the Lord. She was a founding member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and belonged to the Catholic Women’s Organization (CWO). She was active in the Altar Society, Ministry of Care to the Sick, Bible Study Group, Newcomers Committee, and Ministry of Praise.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy P. Metzger; a daughter, Anna Marie; her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Bobbi Brewer, Louisville, Ky.; her sons, John Metzger, Bowling Green, Ky., Bill Metzger (Janet), Franklin, Ky., and Steve Metzger (Reta), Auburn, Ky; her grandchildren, Leah Lawrence (Jake), Bowling Green, Ky., Ben and Luke Metzger, Franklin, Ky., and Julianne Copeland (Jady), New York, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will begin Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, from 4-8 p.m. at J. C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel.

Thanks to the staffs at Chandler Park Assisted Living and Creekwood Place Nursing Home, especially Leslie, and her many friends who have prayed for and supported her during her illness. Expressions of sympathy may be made by donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
