State Board Member, Russell Poore introduced special guests including: State Representative Martha Jane King, Logan County Judge Executive Logan Chick, District Judge Sue Carol Browning, candidate Joe Ross for Logan Co. Attorney and candidate Drexel Johnson for District 4 Magistrate. Other special guests in attendance were Kentucky FB 2nd Vice President Eddie Melton, Christian County FB vice president Joe Rives and his wife Jennifer, Todd County FB president Russell King and his wife Diane, Warren County FB Women’s Chairman Vickie Bryant and Chelsey Jones, Logan Co FB $500. scholarship winner. Mr. Rives and Mr. King served as judges for the Outstanding Youth and Variety Show Contest.
Joe Rogan FB Area Program Director for District 4 conducted the Outstanding Youth Contest. Participating were Jacob Hopkins and Robyn Estes. Each will receive a check for $250 to be made out to the college of their choice. They will represent Logan County at the District 4 contest in Glasgow in November.
Tabitha Robinson presented the Variety Show. The winner of the variety show was Brook Thomas with a prize of $50. The first runner up was Megan Ferguson with a prize of $25. The third runner up was Emily and Tiffani Badgley with a prize of $15. The first place winner will also compete at the District 4 contest in Glasgow.
During the business meeting the following resolutions passed and will be sent to the state annual meeting for consideration to be adopted as Farm Bureau Policy:
We request that Kentucky Farm Bureau and the University of Kentucky develop a composting program for dead farm animals that is simple enough for small operators to implement from both cost and function, then to educate through the Extension Services on the implemented program.
We are opposed to the elimination of flavoring in tobacco Products.
We encourage the state to keep us better informed to the changes to the State Tax Laws.
We would like to see the clean water act to stay as is. We want the term “navigable waters” to not be removed from the clean water act language.
The following officers were elected for 2010: President, Frances Brown; 1st Vice President, Jeremy Robertson; 2nd Vice President, Jay Campbell; Treasurer, Albert Brown; Women’s Chair, Carrell Hughes; Women’s Co-Chair, Tabitha Robertson and Young Farmer’s Chairman, Jonathon Brown.
The directors re-elected for a two year term were: John Alcott, Bradley Brown, Frances Brown, Lonny Epley, Jerry Hughes, Ray Hughes, Jeremy Robertson, Carrell Hughes, Tabitha Robertson, Albert Brown, Jay Campbell and Patsy Poore.
New Directors elected for a two year term were Brad Hall and Trent Martin.
The directors with one year left to serve are: Earl Costellow, Bobby Dawson, Leo Duncan, Dwight Grise, Barry Johnson, Richard Moore, Russell Poore, Alan Simmons, Jimmy Simmons, Jonathan Brown, Jimmy White and Daniel Gaston.
The scholarship donations totaled $184. Several door prizes were awarded and the meeting was adjourned.
