This year, Clean Air, Safe Water, and Healthy Communities is the theme for Children’s Health Month. Throughout October events will be taking place across the United States focusing on ways to ensure children breathe clean air, drink safe water, and live in healthy communities. You can do your part by making a few small changes in and around your home and community to protect children.

Clean Air

Have your home tested for radon. For information on radon call 1-800-SOS-RADON.

Keep your home and car smoke-free.

Never burn trash. Learn before you burn, contact the Kentucky Division for Air Quality at 1-800-BURN-LAW for more information or to report illegal burning.

Safe Drinking Water

Read your water company‚s annual water quality report.

Have private water wells tested annually to ensure safe drinking water.

Never use old wells, cisterns, springs, or sinkholes as dump sites.

Healthy Communities

Say no to needless vehicle idling. If you plan to be parked for longer than 10 seconds turn off your engine.

Participate in local trash clean-up events.

Take part in Second Sunday events in your area on October 10, 2010. For more information visit HYPERLINK "http://www.2ndsundayky.com/"http://www.2ndsundayky.com/.
