Citizens who live on the east side of the old Logan County Hospital will soon be seeing a change in their water pressure no that the Hospital Hill water tank project is complete, Russellville mayor Gene Zick reported at Tuesday’s city council meeting.
A 200,000 gallon tank was placed on top of the hill behind the old Logan County Hospital to provide additional water pressure to the residents in that area along with opening up the possibility of economic growth on that side of town.
The project is being funded by the Rockwell settlement money which was given to the city of Russellville by the State of Kentucky for water projects and a new park to be located on Armory Drive. The project is expected to cost $700,000. Along with the new tank, new and larger water lines are being placed which will help with the the flow of water and fire protection.
Because of the upgrade in pressure, some of the old lines have been expressing leakage, said Mayor Gene Zick, but workers have been battling the leaks as they go.
“We are very pleased to be able to complete this project. This is something that has needed to be done for years. Unfortunately the city hasn’t had enough revenue to get it up and going but thanks to the Rockwell settlement we have been able to see some of these worthwhile projects come to fruition,” said Zick.
