Summer is quickly approaching, and many of Kentucky’s young people and their parents are making plans for summer break, some of which may include summer camp. If you enjoy making friends, being active and learning about the environment, 4-H camp could be a perfect summer activity for you.

Many exciting activities and adventures await 4-H campers. 4-H'ers can spend their days participating in activities such as swimming, arts and crafts, canoeing, nature hikes, archery, riflery and sporting activities. In addition to day programs, many different programs keep the excitement of camp going into the evening. Campers should come prepared to try to new things, make friends and have a lot of fun.

Parents should expect their child to have many positive memories of 4-H Camp and make many new friends. Not only do many children find these activities fun, but they will likely learn new skills and develop a greater appreciation for the environment and wildlife. Also, 4-H Camp can help your child develop independence, responsibility, self-confidence, and camaraderie among peers and adult staff members and volunteers. Trained staff and volunteers will supervise the campers and strive to make sure each 4-H'er has a safe and happy camping experience.

4-H wants your child to have camping experience that is not only memorable, but safe. All camp staff and volunteers undergo background checks prior to camp. Each camp location will have an on-site emergency medical technician at all times to take care of campers' needs.

4-H campers will attend one of four regionally-located camps. 4-H members from Logan County will attend West KY 4-H Camp in Dawson Springs from July 13-17. Logan County will be camping with Butler, Hickman and Todd Counties again this year and our theme is “100 Rockin’ Years of 4-H” to celebrate Kentucky 4-H’s centennial. Registration forms are available at the Extension Office and are due back by June 5. Summer camp will be $160 this year which covers all meals, lodging and transportation for camp. We'll be loading the busses here at the Extension Office Monday morning and returning to the office Friday afternoon. Camp scholarships are available for those who apply. Remember, camp slots are limited and are filled on a first come, first served basis. If you're ready to experience an amazing week at summer camp, make sure and get your registration forms turned in quickly. We're already getting forms turned in.

This is an exciting way to get involved in 4-H, make new friends, share new experiences and learn all sorts of new things. For more information about 4-H Summer Camp, please contact the Logan County Extension Office at 270-726-6323 or email us at gtempleman@uky.edu .
