OTHER NEWS Last week I mentioned the new boy baby that unites the Hart and Orndorff families. I left out one very important person. That was Dorothy Burney who is the great great grandmother. Larry McComas, the long time electrician and plumber, was home for a few days, but is now back in the hospital in Nashville. Nannette Starks King is home following surgery in Nashville. Cards are welcomed.
Keith Barbee, one of Adairville’s most eligible bachelors has given a ring to a beautiful young lady and a wedding date is set for late summer. (Lester & Ruth Marie Barbee are excited about the coming events.) County Sheriff’s Department Officer Harvey is a proud new dad.
Saw Sheriff Wallace Whitaker a few days ago at the hardware store. He told me that some 40 prisoners that are now housed in the county jail have been arrested on drug related issues. Mostly related to “meth.” The Sheriff, his staff and the Drug Task Force have really done their work in south Logan and other parts of the county as well. Just keep it up, don’t let up and we can be almost drug free in our county.
It is my understanding that it got too hot for several drug sellers and they have moved out of the county and out of the state. Well good riddance! We do not need them here ruining the lives of others.
The Dot Restaurant served it’s last Sunday meal till further notice. The new hours are: Mon.-Thurs. 6 a.m. till 3 p.m., Fri. 6 a.m. till 8 p.m. (fish night), Sat. 6 a.m. till 2 p.m. The building and equipment are for sale due to health reasons. The price is $30,000. Contact Geraldine or Ronnie Harper 539-5515.
A GROWING CHURCH Last Sunday I visited the Church of Jesus Christ located west of Adairville on Schley Road. The pastor is Edward Burchett. I was greatly impressed. I have been writing about churches needing more young people. Well, I found it. I sat in the back of the church and looked over an entire congregation of young couples and their children. It was wonderful seeing such a young vigorous church. During the service I learned what apostolic means. Following the service I had at least 15 or 20 young people inviting me to come back for future services. I also got to talk with Pastor Burchett and his wife of 65 years and several family members. I also found out that the pastor likes pineapple cake. (I like it too.) I believe that this church is one that came out of the religious movement that Sister Nina Pierce brought to Adairville over a half century ago.
A BIG PAT ON THE BACK goes to Peggy and Ralph Brewer. Both 90 years young and back from Florida in time for the Strawberry Festival. What a great surprise last Friday when Ralph brought me a beautiful painting of a clown that was painted this past winter by Peggy. I will cherish this painting along with one other as long as I shall live. What a kind and wonderful thing to do and I am honored by this gift. When I get my hotel built the two paintings will be on display for all to see.
