Creekwood Place Nursing & Rehab Center in Russellville would like to recognize two outstanding folks who are a part of the Creekwood family. They are Mary Wright and Gary Anderson.
Mary started coming to Creekwood close to seven years ago to see a friend she used to work with. After her friend passed away, Mary continued to come and visit with folks. She became a volunteer with the activity department and has been coming ever since. When asked why she continues to come, she replied, “Because I love the people and it was better then sitting at home watching soap operas or laying in bed.” She eventually got hired to work some at Creekwood, but whether she is on the clock or not, she still comes in. She is at the center Monday through Friday and has even been known to stop by on the weekends. The residents love and look forward to their daily visits from Mary and Creekwood loves her too.
Gary Anderson has been coming to Creekwood to volunteer for over four years now. He started coming when his mom was a resident. After she passed away, he too, continued to come and became a volunteer with the activity department. Gary is an excellent musician and blesses the center with his playing. He takes his instruments and goes room to room to play for the residents and this includes some that aren’t able to get up and come down to activities. He plays guitar, banjo, mandolin and fiddle for them and even brings his bass to set in with the Westerners when they come to play. He is also a big part of some of the activity skits that the center does. He adds a comic roll to them and can easily get the residents laughing. His comic side came out when he answered the question of why he comes to the center. He replied, “It’s better than wallering around at home all day.” The center is truly blessed to have Gary as part of the Creekwood family.
Gary and Mary show a passion and love that is a gift from God to each and every resident and to all at Creekwood. The center wants to let the public know just how thankful they are to have them there.
