The Russellville Panther basketball teams headed to Bowling Green High to face the Purples on Tuesday night in their last double header of the season. The Lady Panthers played a rough game against the Lady Purples and fell 33-84. The Panthers played a closer game against the Purples, but still suffered a 89-66 loss.
The Lady Panthers came out to the court with not much enthusiasm and it showed throughout the game. The Lady Purples defense was rough on the Lady Panthers, as they ended the first quarter down 11-31.
The Lady Purples continued to dominate the Lady Panthers in the second quarter, scoring 29 points compared to the seven points made by the Lady Panthers, resulting with a score of 18-60 at halftime.
The Lady Purples would slow down in the second half of the game, while the Lady Panthers made some good plays to put more points on the scoreboard. But the Lady Purples finished the game with a huge win of 84-33 over the Lady Panthers.
Senior Amber Sydnor led the Lady Panthers with 13 points. Khalia Hampton followed with eight points and senior Nathansia Haskins finished with five points.
The Panthers went on to face the Purples in the last game of their regular season this year. The Purples were able to pull away from the Panthers early on in the game and maintain that lead to leave the Panthers behind 17-27 after the first quarter.
The Panthers were able to stay in the game in the second quarter and keep the Purples from gaining a big lead, ending the second quarter down 33-41.
The Purples came back out to the court ready to play as they score 22 points in the third quarter of the game, gaining a 13 point lead over the Panthers going into the final quarter of the game.
The two teams were able to battle against each other and score the same amount of the points in the last quarter, resulting in the 66-89 loss for the Panthers.
Senior Jordan Kennedy was the points leader for the Panthers with 18 points. Christian Naylor ended the game with 13 points, Barrett Croslin with 11 and senior Zach Hines with 10.
The Lady Panthers will face the Christian County Lady Colonels tonight in the last game of their regular season. Then they will face the Todd County Central Lady Rebels on Tuesday at Franklin-Simpson at 6:30 p.m.
The Panthers will face the Logan County Cougars on Monday at Franklin-Simpson at 8 p.m.
