This has been a big year for the Russellville Middle School cheerleaders.

According to their coach, Mandy Browning, who also teaches at Stevenson Elementary School, the girls recently completed their competitive season, during which they brought home second place honors from the Logan County Middle School Competition Medium Division and the third place award from the medium division of the Cupid Classic Competition at Warren East High School in Bowling Green.

The squad’s accolades began during the Universal Cheerleaders Association camp they attended last summer at Western Kentucky University.

At the camp, the squad received a Superior Squad trophy, second place for their extreme routine and the Junior High Leadership Squad award, which was voted on by other squads attending camp. The group also came home with numerous ribbons and a spirit stick, according to Browning.

This year’s squad cheered for 8th grade football and 8th grade girls and boys basketball. The squad has 16 girls and is graduating 12 eighth graders this year.
