The Logan County Middle School championship games were held on Tuesday. The Olmstead Lady Rams and the Adairville Lady Cardinals made it to the final around of the girls tournament. The Olmstead Rams and the Auburn Tigers made it to the final around of the boys tournament. The Lady Rams were announced the champions after their 40-20 win and the Rams were announced the champions after their 63-25 win.
The Lady Rams and the Lady Cardinals played first. The two teams played hard the first quarter and finished the quarter tied 6-6. The Lady Rams had a big second quarter, scoring 14 points, leading the Lady Cardinals 20-9 going into the second half.
The Lady Cardinals kept pushing on and kept the Lady Rams from scoring many points, but still fell behind 15-27 at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Rams had another big quarter scoring 13 points, ending the game with a 20 point win of 40-20.
Lauren Batten was the points leader for the Lady Cardinals with seven points. Amanda Crutchfield finished the game with five points and Taylor Ward finished with four points. Both Ann-Meguiar Bouldin and Rachael Pitts finished with two points each.
Logan Williamson led the Lady Rams with 11 points. LeeAnn Coots finished the game with 10 points for the Lady Rams. Abi Lindsey scored six points and Kathryn Smith scored four. Kameron Higgins, Blayke Bingham, Claire Wilson and Ginny Edwards all scored two points each. Carlie Alvis finished with one point for the Lady Rams.
“I think the girls game ready to play. Yesterday we had seven girls sick and they all came back ready to play. I’m amazed at the heart they showed tonight. This was a well deserved championship,” said Lady Ram head coach Daniel Alvis. “At the beginning of the season they didn’t think they would be here. I think tonight is a good example of their heart.”
Next was the championship game between the Olmstead Rams and the Auburn Tigers.
The Rams gained a huge lead early in the game, finishing the first quarter with a score of 27-4. The Rams continued to score and kept the Tigers from coming close as they led 41-9 going into the second half.
In the second half, the Rams kept making good plays and scoring against the Tigers. The Tigers picked up their game in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 points, but couldn’t come close to the Olmstead lead. The Rams finished the game with a 63-25 win.
Austin Gregory and Garrett Wilhelm were the points leaders for the Auburn Tigers with five points each. Reggie Powell and Cooper Covington finished the game with four points each. Ashton Gregory contributed three points to the Tigers. Jackson Steward and John Mark Page finished with two points each.
Lorenzo Garcia was the points leader for the Olmstead Rams with 15 points. Dalton Nash followed with 14 points. Both Andrew Martin and Robert Dancer finished with 6 points for the Rams. Mason Parker contributed five points. Will Bingham, D.J. Beard and Dylan Wilson all finished with four points. Andrew Milam and Bradley Taylor had two points each with Landon Thomas scoring one point.
“I’m proud of the boys. They focused and gave it everything they had. This is a special group and they played like it,” said Olmstead Ram head coach Todd Gill. “We have had a very successful season with just one loss in the county. I’m really proud.”
