The Logan County High School boys’ basketball team picked up its third win of the season last week in the T.J. Samson Community Hospital Holiday Classic in Glasgow.
After dropping their first two games in the tournament, the Cougars rebounded to beat Metcalfe County 85-58 to improve their record to 3-7 on the year.
Logan County narrowly lost to Barren County 72-69 in the opening round of the tournament. That would have been a great game for the Cougars to pull out, as the Trojans are now 9-2 overall - which is the most wins of any team in the Fourth Region.
In the second game of the tournament, Logan County fell 83-58 to Caldwell County.
The Russellville boys’ team also went 1-2 in a holiday tournament last week.
The Panthers played in the Danny Annis Memorial Eagle Classic at Ohio County High School.
They lost the tournament opener 80-76 to Breckinridge County and then fell 67-59 to Henderson County.
But RHS rebounded in the final day of the tournament with a convincing 79-51 win over Butler County. This was the second win of the season for Russellville against the Bears. The Panthers beat Butler County 97-50 at home back on Dec. 1.
Both boys teams will be playing in town this weekend as they co-host the First Southern National Bank Christmas Classic.
The Russellville High School girls’ basketball team had some good success in their tournament last week.
The Lady Panthers went 2-1 in the Trigg County Christmas Tournament.
RHS lost its opener narrowly, falling 47-45 to Lone Oak.
But then Russellville won its next two contests, knocking off Heath 59-32 and Hopkins County Central 69-66.
This brings the Lady Panthers record up to 4-5 on the season. They will also be playing at home this weekend in the First Southern National Bank Christmas Classic.
