And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the Lord, nor yet the works which He had done for Israel. Judges 2:10 KJV

Bro. Chad Johnson

New evangelicalism is a movement of theological compromise that began in the late 1940s and has spread throughout evangelical Christianity. The main teaching and goal of New Evangelicalism was to unite all Christians regardless of doctrinal errors.

The founders were determined no to be fighters, but rather they would be diplomats and positive.

They hate the stance of the separatist who draws lines and break fellowship with those who deny the Bible as God’s inspired word. They base their fellowship on experience, rather than truth and doctrine.

New evangelicalism is full of compromise and departure from the scripture. They can join hands with all denominations but ignore the plain scripture to come out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord. (II Corinthians 6:17) These type of preachers join hands with error instead of exposing and rebuking it.

The vast majority of so-called Christians look at the smooth talking, soft-mannered silent watchdogs as great preachers. They think that just because there are people being saved, that how or what they believe does not matter.

Allow me to let you in on a little secret. When error is preached and easy believeism is practiced, there are as many true (II Corinthians 5:17) conversions as you may think. When churches push and twist people’s arms through emotionalism to make a move during an invitation, this is not the work of God, but man.

Invitations as we know them today were not popular until the early 1900s. As men left the doctrines of grace and moved toward what man can do instead of God, high-pressured, unscriptural invitations stuck up their ugly heads.

If salvation is truly all by the power of God through grace, then we don’t need man’s tricks to “get people saved.” Preach the word of God and leave the saving up to God. Our text verse says that all that generation died and were buried.

The tragedy was that the next generation did not know the Lord. I truly believe that this is the problem with the majority of preachers today. They also knew not the works God had done for Israel. Our generation of powerless preachers who refuse to preach the word of God in its fullness are killing our churches and our nation.

This is exactly why I cannot be a part of the Convention or association. There are some preachers who claim they are conservative, but they are not honest enough to lead the church they pastor out of unholy alliances such as the SBC.

I want to close with a quote from Charles Haddon Spurgeon, a great Baptist preacher from the 1800s. He quoted this as he was leading the church to break fellowship with the Baptist Union of London, England.

“Complicity with error will take from the best of men the power to enter any successful protest against it. It is our solemn conviction that where there can be no real spiritual communion, there should be no pretense of fellowship. Fellowship with known and vital error is participation in sin. As soon as I saw, or just thought I saw, that error had become firmly established, I did not deliberate, but quitted, the church at once. Since then, my counsel has been (come out from among them.) I have felt that no protest could be equal to that of distinct separation from known evil. That I might not stultify my testimony I have cut myself clear of those who err from faith and even from those associate with them.”
