There will be a community prayer service on the lawn in front of Russellville High School at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in remembrance of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings.
RHS principal Jennifer McDaniel said she was approached by a parent on Friday about having something to both pray for the local students and remember the victims of the tragedy.
“Everybody was pretty visibly and emotional shaken still, and we were approached about doing something,” McDaniel said. “We decided to do a prayer service in the morning so that it doesn’t disrupt our students day as they prepare for their midterm exams.”
McDaniel said that the high school students will be allowed to take part in the prayer service if they want.
“They will be allowed to go out and participate, if they choose,” McDaniel said. “If they don’t want to, then they can just go to class as usual.”
Speakers will include Russellville mayor Mark Stratton and local minister Marius Beard. The whole community is invited to take part in this event.
