The Russellville High School boys’ basketball team faced the University Heights Blazers at Jim Young Gymnasium on Tuesday and he Panthers won 69-66, which evens their season record 2-2.
The Panthers came out strong in the first quarter as they out scored the Blazers 23-17. The second quarter was very slow for the Panthers as they scored only two points heading into the second half. The Blazers only trailed behind one point with a score of 25-24 at the half.
The Panthers gained a big lead in the third quarter scoring 27 points bringing the score to 52-42 at the third. The two teams had a close fourth quarter as the Blazers attempted to come back, but the Panthers pulled through with a win by three points.
Jordan Kennedy lead the Panthers with 19 points and Barrett Croslin followed with 17 and Zach Hines with nine.
“The only thing I liked about tonight was the win. The players weren’t motivated to play and we started out flat and stayed flat. We had too many turnovers but our defense effort was good. It wasn’t out best performance but we will take the win,” said head coach Phil Todd. “I feel good about our upcoming game and I’m glad we are playing on our home court. I’m looking forward to it.”
The Panthers will play their first district double header on Friday at home against Todd County Central.
