Albert “Ray” Powell, 88, of Russellville, formerly of Auburn, died, Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Logan County Sept. 1, 1924, a son of the late John Finley and Effie Myrtle Hester Powell. In addition to his parents, Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Boyd Powell; his sons, Eldon Ray Powell and Rickey Marion Powell; his daughter, Deanna Lyons; his sister, Ruth Blackwell, and his brother, J. R. Powell.

Mr. Powell served on the Auburn Rural Fire Department for 36 years, worked for Mr. Aaron Rogers and later Mr. Murrel Rogers, Rogers Lumber, until it was sold to Blanton Lumber in Russellville where he worked until his retirement. He was a Baptist.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Young Funeral Home Auburn Chapel with Reverend Mickey McPherson officiating. Burial followed in the Felts Cemetery. Visitation began Monday, Nov. 26 from 5-8 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 8 a.m. until time of service.

Pallbearers were Jacob O’Neal, Joseph Woodward, Jason Powell, Cody Costello. Wayne Austin, and Charlie Austin. Honorary pallbearers were Elmer Hyams, Jonathan Powell, Travis Lawson, and Justin Lyons.

He is survived by his son, James Powell and Connie of Auburn; his daughters, Connie Rust of Auburn and Marie Allen of Blue Springs, Mo.; his brothers, Bill Powell of Russellville and Danny Wayne Powell of Bowling Green; his sisters, Dorothy Miller of Russellville and Mary Johnson of Bowling Green;p 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and a special companion and Friend, Treva White of Lewisburg.
