If you have ever wanted to help fight against cancer, but just didn’t know how, the American Cancer Society, along with local volunteers, have made it very easy during this holiday season.

You will not only be helping to fight against a dreaded disease that effects so many lives, but also get something in return to hang on your Christmas tree during the holidays.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life “Love Lights a Tree” ceremony will be held Dec. 13, at 5 p.m. at First Southern National Bank’s main office in Russellville.

This special ceremony to remember those individuals who have been affected by cancer will take place as volunteers light a Christmas tree and read aloud the names of those being honored with Christmas ornaments. You are invited to support this effort by purchasing an ornament in honor or in memory of a loved one who has been touched by cancer. Simply fill out an order form and return your order to Debbie York at First Southern National Bank. You can also send your donation and information to Mrs. York at 218 Sugarloaf Dr., Russellville, Ky. 42276. Order forms can be obtained at the bank. Make checks payable to the American Cancer Society.

“We welcome you to join us for this beautiful ceremony,” said Terrie Lawson, Community Representative for Relay For Life of Logan County.

There are four options in ornaments this year- the purple globe ornament for $5, the tree shaped ornament for $10, the Gold American Cancer Society ornament for $25, and the Large Ceramic Angel for $500. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.

After the ceremony, you may take the ornament home with you or you can leave it on the tree until after Christmas. If you sponsor this ceremony with a large angel, you may also take that home with you.

Those honored and remembered will also be included in a special WRUS “Love Lights a Tree” segment after the ceremony.

For more information, call Debbie York at 725-9893 or 725-7603.

Please join inn the continued fight against cancer this Christmas season as we honor our loved ones who have won the fight and remember those we have lost. There will be a special guest speaker at the ceremony, entertainment and light refreshments served.
