A recent field trip gave students, staff, and parents a look into the life of Robert Penn Warren of Guthrie, Kentucky and the John Bell Family of Robertson County, Tenn.

Eighth graders at Olmstead School concluded an annual local history study in October by visiting Warren’s childhood home, now a museum, in Guthrie. The visit included a tour through the home with community volunteers giving the group insight into Warren’s life growing up near the Red River and the local inspirations reflected in his writing.

The group then traveled to Adams, Tennessee to meet with Tim Henson-a local Bell Family historian and author. Mr. Henson treated everyone to a tour of the property once inhibited by John Bell and the Bellwood Cemetary. The trip concluded with 71 students, staff, and parents attending the annual production of Spirit: The Authentic Story of the Bell Witch of Tennessee.
