September 18th dawned a beautiful yet cool end of summer day, but that couldn’t dampen the spirits of over 400 Logan County fourth grade students as they embarked to the Logan County Extension Complex for a fun, educational day of learning about safety and healthy living at the 2012 Logan County Progressive Agriculture Safety Day.
Over 120 volunteers took part in this education day by presenting workshops, serving food, working the registration table, serving as group leaders for the classrooms, taking pictures and cleaning up after the event. Through the 11 learning stations, presenters gave youth, teachers and parents life-saving information regarding ATV’s (All Terrain Vehicles), tractor and lawn mower safety, Disability awareness, 911 etiquette, Water Safety, Fire Prevention, Bicycle Safety, Food Safety, Fire Extinguisher usage, Electrical Safety, and hand washing and germ safety. A 12th station was provided where students got a chance to learn about physical fitness by doing Zumba.
The day was capped off by a mock rescue coordinated by the Lewisburg, Russellville City and Russellville Rural Fire Departments. The students got to see how the EMT’s work through traumatic injuries and how a trapped person is freed from an automobile. PHI also brought in a helicopter to witness the “victim” being taken to an ER for treatment.
