The 2012 Relay for Life event had 23 teams last year, the goal this next year is 30 teams. organizers have no doubt they are going to make that goal with the help of the community.

The theme for next year is “STAYIN’ ALIVE” with a 70’s/disco theme….fun, fun, fun!

Team Captain meetings will start in January and will be the third Thursday of the month, at the hospital cafeteria, at 5:30 p.m. That first meeting will be January 17, 2013. Relay organizers are looking for teams. They are looking for people who want to make a difference in the fight against cancer. You can be from a church, a business, a municipality, a school group or anyone that wants to get together some friends and join in.

There will have two kick-offs -open registration- dates. One will be on Oct. the 12 from 5-8 p.m. at the Russellville High School lobby…this will be where the Friday night Tobacco Festival goings on are this year. There will be computers to help you get signed up. The second one will be on Nov. 18 from 2-4 p.m. on the square during the Christmas Open House on the Square. These will be come as you please anytime during those hours. Even if you have signed your team up online, you can still stop by the kick-off and pick up your Team Captain kit that will be full of information for you!

Early Bird Registration is something new this year. If you sign up your team before Nov. the 19th, and pay your registration online, your registration fee is only $10. Only the person signing up the team pays this, not team members joining the team. After Nov. 18, the fee goes to $50. After the first TC meeting (Jan. 17) the fee goes to $100 per team.

To sign up your team, go to relayforlife.org/loganky and click on the orange “sign up” then on the orange “start a new team” If you had a log in ID last year, you have to use that to register in the same team name as last year. If you are a brand new TC and have never signed in, you will have to change your team name from last year. Organizers are hoping this is something they will change in the next week or so, if they get enough complaints. Remember that after the team is created online, team members sign up by “joining an existing team,” they can click on “pay by cash or check later” when it asks for the $10 registration fee.

The 2013 Relay For Life event date is June the 14 at LCHS.
