The Russellville Fire Department responded to a single vehicle fire Friday, Aug. 31 at approximately 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of the 68-80 Bypass.

According to Fire Chief Billy Poole, the owner of the truck saw smoke coming from under the hood and pulled over, when he raised the hood the truck caught fire and spread very fast.

“We get a lot of these calls,” said Poole, where vehicles have caught fire just driving down the road.

Firefighters were quick to the scene and extinguished the fire that had engulfed the vehicle.

These types of fires may be common, however, they are still very dangerous, because flames can make it to the gas tank and cause an explosion, Poole said.
