A 47-year-old man went missing a few miles west of Russellville in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Aug. 28 causing his family to become concerned for his well-being. According to Terry Cole, assistant director of the Logan County Search & Rescue, Mike Mallory was suffering from dementia and disappeared around 12 a.m. Tuesday morning.
A search began almost immediately after daybreak Tuesday when family reported Mallory was missing to authorities.
Cole said Air Evac was called in to scour the corn fields, while Search & Rescue, Emergency Management, the Logan County Sheriff’s Department and both Olmstead and Russellville Rural Fire Departments began searching the woods and surrounding areas on Crittenden Road off of Daysville Road. The Logan County Burden Bearers were also on the scene to aid those who were searching with water and prayers.
“It was such a large rural area, I am thankful we had the help we needed,” said Cole.
The search went on for approximitly two and a half hours, said Cole, when finally there was a break in news from the family. Cole said it was discovered that a family member had picked up Mallory on the side of the road by a corn field and failed to notify other members of the family.
Cole said the family was asked in the beginning to contact all family and friends to see if they knew of the missing man’s whereabouts.
“That is standard protocol,” said Cole. But nothing came from that in the beginning.
Cole said he sees this as a successful mission because, “anytime you find someone it’s a good find.”
