Hello again from South Logan County and historic Adairville, Kentucky. A great town, with mostly good people and just a few not so good that need to hit the highway. I have written many times how Adairville is such a great place to raise children. Well, I still believe that but it is being ruined by the sale of illegal drugs.
That’s right illegal drugs and I continue to hear that the sale is widespread in all parts of the town. So here I go!
It does not take a brain surgeon to watch, listen and ask questions. All kinds of drugs are being sold in Adairville. On the street, from mail boxes, in parking lots, on front porches, in front of businesses, out of truck windows and on and on. We are talking about illegal prescription drugs, marijuana, cocaine, meth and on and on. Drugs that can and will destroy the lives of not only our young people but older adults and their families as well. Some of you and your families have already been touched by this or know some that have been. It is time or actually long over due for our law enforcement officers in this town and county to act.
I hear and many others of you report that you hear that “something is going to be done,” “they are looking for the big guys who are providing to the local sellers,” “just wait,” “what drug problem?,” “who is selling?” and on and on. Well, I say get off the pot and do something!
Plenty of information has been provided to local and county officers. You can talk to nearly any school kid and they can tell you who the sellers are and where the sales go down. Citizens have taken photos and movie shots of sales in progress. These have been available to the law enforcement officials. Parents have given first hand information to our police.
There should have already been arrests in the home invasion robbery of the couple who own the Mexican restaurant in Adairville a couple of weeks ago. Word is out who the invaders were and are. They are reported to have been broke the day before the robbery and throwing $20 bills around town the day after the robbery. It does not take a brain surgeon to figure that one out.
A rental home in Adairville was found to have illegal pot plants growing on the property in a near by building and some type lab in the house. Also weapons in the home. Has an arrest been made. Well no, I guess the investigation goes on and on and on.
Neighbors in a very respected neighborhood of town have continued to observe drug sales going on at a local house. These observations have been reported for several months. The sales continue. Officers have been to the house but did they have a search warrant? Why not?
The front door of a local business was smashed in and “artificial pot stuff,” that was legal at the time, was taken. There was film of the break in and a number of on the street informants, but, no arrests to date.
Several adult women in town have been drug addicts for years. They seem to obtain their illegal pills with ease. Some times when you meet them they are in a stupor or daze. They drive cars up and down the roads and one day will kill a child or adult or several people. They will not mean to and will be sorry but someone will be dead.
Most everybody in town can identify the 10 or 12 bad apples. They are repeatedly involved in crimes over and over and over again. They still are walking or running the streets of Adairville just waiting to commit another crime which apparently will go unpunished. Get rid of this crowd and you get rid of 90% of the trouble in town.
Instead of worrying so much about Adairville’s one stop sign on the square how about worrying about the drugs and our children? Put the heat on the criminals. We need a “Walking Tall” Buford Pusser, former sheriff in Tennessee, attitude that will clean house of this bad element.
For the law enforcement officer who says “Adairville does not have a drug problem,” I would say get your head out of where ever it is and do something or look for a new profession. Play time is over. It is time to do something now.
If nothing is done very soon then I think it will be time to call on the federal level law enforcement officers to come in. It might be very interesting what they may very well uncover. I would bet that they will not be playing around or dragging their feet.
Big Fish Fry Time is drawing near for Adairville’s big annual fish fry fund raiser hosted by the Red River Fish & Game Habitat. The big date is Saturday September 22 at the club house at James Lake. With A Smile I have been watching the TV show Storage Wars. I do not watch that much TV but dog gone it I have just about got attached to that show. The very popular show has several rival personalities bidding to buy the contents of unpaid lockers. The bidders can not go in the lockers before they bid. They can only look through the doorway and hope they buy low and resale high. They are looking for treasures that will bring a lot of money. Some times they get just a bunch of junk but sometimes they find something of great value.
My sister called me a few nights ago to tell me about the show and to remind me about our late and wonderful mom.
Our mother was a child of the great depression years. This meant she saved everything for a rainy day. It finally came to the point where my sister said we have to do something to help mom. She has a beautiful house but too much is in it. So I rented a storage building and a truck and we began taking “extra” things of moms to the storage company. We took lots of furniture, boxes and more boxes. We filled that building completely up.
It was not long before mom had even more stuff in her house. It just seemed like she wanted to fill all the empty spots. She said she might need the things for gifts or to loan out so she needed it close.
I paid on that storage unit for almost two years and then mom passed away from breast cancer. She was 75 years young and still teaching at the school for the blind. She was the longest tenured teacher in the state system.
Time just slipped away and before you knew it almost another year had gone by and I was still paying on that storage unit. I told my sister it was time to close that unit out. Paying for three years was a lot of money. My sister told me she did not have room for all of that stuff and I told her I did not either. It was decided I would buy a unit from the Overholts on Hall Store Road between Adairville and Russellville. I had the storage building delivered, rented a truck to go after mom’s things out of her old unit. I called the storage company to tell them what I planned. They told me to bring bolt cutters which I did.
There we were, the manager of the rental company, a big truck to move everything, a helper with a dolly to move the things out of that building and into the new unit at home, my sister, a cousin and myself ready to do all the work. The lock was cut and the big door rolled up and what? The unit was almost completely empty. A table and two chairs and four boxes. What had happened?
The manager of the rental company stated that right after we moved mom’s things in she started the very next week moving things back home. He told us she came once or twice a week and got a box or two each time! Before long there was not much left.
Sure enough when we returned to mom’s house we found everything. She had redistributed so we did not spot the return of her precious things. In the attic, in the closets, under beds and so forth. The joke was on us. To think I had paid for a nearly empty storage building for three years and had finally bought a unit to store the things in. Oh well I loved mom and she had the last laugh on my sister and I.
Till next time. Good night Noel, Julia Starks, Harold Johnson, Maryann & Charles Davis, Brent & Nancy Summers, Mrs. Sammy Tinch, Grandma Janie Gregory, the folks at the Adairville Church of Christ, “Sweet Mrs. Bertie” Angel and Mrs. Calabash where ever you are. Good night!
