The Logan County 9- and 10-year-old Little League All-Stars completed a successful tournament run last week.
The team went a perfect 4-0 in pool play of the district tournament in Owensboro, but fell to a tough Warren County South team in the semifinals.
Logan County started the tournametn off with a 10-0 shutout of Bowling Green East that included a 9-run first inning.
Then against North Warren County, Logan needed a late rally to win. Logan County trailed 5-1 heading into the final inning, but plated five runs to pick up the 6-5 victory.
Logan County also had a big first inning against East Daviess County, scoring 12 runs en route to a 16-7 win.
“After we had that big first inning, we kind of let down a little bit and let them back into the game,” said Logan County coach Ethan Meguiar.
Then against Muhlenberg County, Logan County won easily, with a 22-1 blowout victory that included the first-ever home run by Jacob Smock - a grand slam.
Logan County was the No. 2 seed in the four-team, single elimination bracket and faced Warren County South, which had one loss to Bowling Green East in pool play.
It was a tough game for Logan County, as the young All-Stars lost 12-8.
“The fifth and sixth innings were not very kind to us,” Meguiar said. “Eight runs should have been enough to win that game.”
The loss ended the postseason run for Logan County, but an overall record of 4-1 is a year to be proud of.
“I was proud of them, the boys played real well,” Meguiar said. “We were just as good as anybody up there.”
