With temperatures the past few weeks reaching the upper 90s, employees in the historic Logan County Courthouse are well over ready to have the structure’s renovation project over so they can get some relief from the sweltering heat that has been their work environment for sometime.
Although large fans and open windows and doors offered some relief and earlier working days in the Judge Executive’s office helped, it hasn’t been pleasant for those that call the courthouse home for eight plus hours a day. Tenants include the judge executive’s offices, the county attorney, Logan County Child Support and the Logan County Tourism Commission.
Judge Executive Logan Chick said he hopes the air conditioning will be up and going by Tuesday. Those within the courthouse are wringing with anticipation along with sweat at the possibility.
The renovation project began last year, but took a turn when it was discovered the pipes of the courthouse heating and cooling system were found to be corroded and needed to be replaced according to the state’s boiler inspector. Cost for repairing the system’s piping will be a little over $325,746, although this is not a total cost for the entire renovation project which saw restroom upgrades, a new elevator and flooring. The end result could reach over a half a million dollars.
