Logan County is a community that has a lot to offer. From it’s rolling agricultural landscapes to its down-home, good ole’ country folk who would invite a stranger to dinner having met them only once.

This kind of atmosphere is what drew James and Levona Martin and their two children, Jaz, 5, and Jace, 1, to this community, having lived in several other places prior to making their home in Russellville. The Martin’s, a young couple, moved to Russellville from Colorado, and before that Florida.

James, an artist by trade and by makeup, was born and raised in Butler County, however, after moving to Florida to attend and graduate from the Fort Lauderdale Art Institute, it was years before he decided to call Kentucky home again.

“There is something about this place,” said Martin, who is a professional corporate animator. He says this is the kind of place he and his wife want to raise their children.

It wasn’t long after the Martin’s moved into their Daleview home that they were introduced to that friendly neighbor reputation Logan County is so known for. James said he met some of the most wonderful and friendly friends who have not only introduced them to other friendly members of the community, but also invited the family to church at First Baptist in Russellville, where they now attend.

Buddy and Maddie Duncan, a family that have been intricately woven into the fabric of Logan history, once owing and operating Duncan’s Drug Store in Russellville, have become good friends of the Martins, helping them however they can to make them feel comfortable and welcome.

“They have been really nice to us and are kind of like our adopted family. They are surrogate grandparents to us,” said James.

One of the ways James says he wants to give back to the community that has already given him so much in such a short time is to share his gift of art. “I want to start giving back and putting some of my art out into the community,” said James, who is extremely talented in many ways. From sketching to sculpting and 3-D animation, James create amazing things.

One of the best things he has been able to do through his talent is watch his children grow and be a part of their everyday life. James has an office and works out of his home and gets a lot of his muse from his children. “We have been so enamored with this community,” said James, who is looking forward to what he will be able to do in return.
