The South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force and the Logan County Sheriff’s Department was called out to a marijuana growing operation on Sunday, June 17, around 7 p.m.

It was reported that there was a marijuana growing operation about a mile north of Lewisburg off KY107.

upon arrival to the location, the authorities found 10 marijuana plants.

A suspect was questioned and admitted to growing the plants and also confessed to growing four plants that the drug task force found last year as well.

This case will be presented to the Logan County Grand Jury.

“We’ve had more reports of marijuana growing this year than we have in the past,” said South Central Kentucky Drug task Force director Jerry Smith. “Like this one, they haven’t been real big patches, but we are having more reported.”

Smith said he thinks more individuals are seeing the negative impacts of family members involved in drugs and are more likely to report drug activity.

“I think people are just reporting it more now because they are seeing the devastation it causes in their family members’ lives,” Smith said.

Smith added that if anyone suspects marijuana may be growing in Logan County, they should report it to the drug task force by calling 725-4972.

“It’s better for us to check it out,” he sad. “A lot of people want to go in and check it out themselves, but some of the people that are growing marijuana will booby trap the fields, so it’s best to let us go in and check it out.”

The Drug Task Force also discovered a methamphetamine lab after receiving a tip on Friday, June 15.

The Drug Task Force and the Logan County Sheriff’s searched a trailer off J. Montgomery Road about two miles south of Russellville when they discovered the meth lab.

The trailer was occupied by Darrell McMurtry. other items that were reported stolen were also found in the residence -including a computer.

The drug task force agents dismantled and cleaned up the lab site.

This case will be presented to the Logan County Grand Jury at a later date and Smith expects several people to be indicted.
