James Huffines “Jimmy” Duer, 76, of Auburn, died Monday June 4, 2012 at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
He was born in Barren County, June 28, 1935, to the late James Alfred and Fannie Mildred Huffines Duer.
Duer cofounded the Auburn Nursing Home and served on the board of directors of the Auburn Rural Fire and Ambulance Service. A graduate of the University of Kentucky School of Pharmacy, Duer owned and operated the Auburn Drug Company as well as the Aull and Company hardware store. He was a member of the Auburn Optimist Club. He served as an elder in the congregation of the Highway 68 Church of Christ and later in the Locust Grove Church of Christ. He taught Sunday school classes for more than 45 years.
Funeral services for Jimmy Duer will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Young Funeral Home Auburn Chapel with burial following in the Auburn Cemetery. Visitation is Friday at 10 a.m., lasting until the service begins.
Pallbearers will be Bradley Stewart, John Arney, Boyd Wright, David Brown, James Thomas Brown, Glen Vaughn and Carol Browning. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth King, Jim Jackson, Tim Hodges, Keith Nelson and Arthur Allen.
He is survived by, his wife, Jessie Westerfield Duer; his son, James Arthur Duer and wife Josephine of Nashville; his two daughters, Jamie Duer Arney and husband John of Franklin and Olivia Duer Nelson and husband Keith of Navarre, Fla.; grandchildren, Morgan, Mary Patton, Payne, and Madeline, Samuel and James Patrick, Colin and Daschle.
