Both could make a case for a district title. Both fielded strong pitching staffs, and both had explosive offenses.
Only one team would come out on top and the Cougars behind the near perfect pitching performance by Thomas Miller secured the 5-0 win and the district title game.
The Cougars would get on the board first in the first inning. They would tack on another run in the next inning before LCHS' Gage Hales stepped the plate with two runners on.
In one mighty swing Hales put the game out of reach as he hit a three run homer over the left field wall to take a 5-0 lead.
The rest was left up to Miller.
Miller would mow down Panther hitter after hitter having a perfect game going into the sixth inning. But a perfect bunt broke up the perfect game in the sixth.
Even with a runner on, it didn't deter Miller and the Cougars from their goal of repeating as district champions for the second season in a row.
Going into the region tournament next week the Cougars will draw the losers of district 14th, 16th championship games or Allen County-Scottsville. The Panthers will draw the winners of those championship games or Glasgow. The official draw will be on Saturday morning at Warren East. Check back here for the official match ups.
