The Russellville Panthers and Logan County Cougars track team all had several athletes that made it to the state tournament this past weekend. With a new format in the rules where there would be no preliminary races before the official track meet it meant everybody had an equal shot at the gold.

Case in point, Elizabethtown’s girls 3200 meter relay team probably wouldn’t have made it past the preliminary rounds, but ended up taking home the gold while setting a school record on Friday’s class double A meet. The Panthers and Cougars, both who have state contending teams, were looking to take home some hardware.

Here are the results for the Russellville Panthers boys track team at the Class ‘A’ meet last Thursday; Demarcus Hampton finished 19th in state with a 11.67 time in the 100 meter race; the 800 meter relay team of Dominique Harris, Joshua Hampton, Demarcus Hampton, and Zach Hines finished seventh in state with a 1:34.58 time; the 400 meter relay team of the same Harris, Hampton, Hampton, and Hines combination finished 10th in state with a time of 45.99; Dominique Harris finished 13th in state with a time of 23.46 in the 200 meter race and Demarcus Hampton finished 16th with a time of 23.60; Antonio Rose finished fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 41 feet and 10.5 inches and Quintin Calloway finished eighth with a jump of 40 feet and 6.5 inches; Joshua Hampton finished 11th in the high jump with a jump of five feet and eight inches. Russellville finished overall twenty sixth with seven team points. The Russellville girls team despite having the defending 100 meter champion was a no show for the meet on Thursday.

Here are the results for the Logan County Cougars track team at the Class ‘2A’ meet on Friday; the boys 3200 meter relay team of Sye Head, Levi Crossley, Colton Spencer, and Noah Thomas finished seventh in state with a time of 8:32.19; Avrey Collier finished fifth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.07 and Justin Rone finished 20th with a time of 16.69; Avrey Collier finished fifth in the boys 100 meter with a time of 11.10; the 800 meter relay girls team of Claire Hopkins, Kelsey Markham, Jasmine Martin, and Hayley Mayer finished 13th with a time of 1:52.93; the 800 meter relay boys team of Dylan Cole, Avrey Collier, Michael Sydnor, and Colton Spencer finished 8th with a time of 1:32.62; Colton Spencer finished 16th in the 400 meter race with a time of 52.87; Claire Hopkins finished 18th in the girls 300 meter hurdles with a time of 52.53; Avrey Collier finished eighth in the 200 meter with a time of 22.82; the boys 1600 meter relay team of Dylan Cole, Michael Sydnor, Colton Spencer, and Justin Rone finished 20th with a time of 3:44.18; Hayley Mayher finished 18th in the girls discus with a throw of 81 feet and 10 inches; Aaron Johnson finished 12th in the boys discus with a throw of 128 feet and 10 inches; Michael Sydnor finished 16th in the boys triple jump with a jump of 40 feet and four inches. The Logan County boys team finished 20th in state.

The Cougars and Panthers will continue to get faster and stronger over the off season as they have a ton of talent and speed returning to the track next season.
