Attorney General Jack Conway announced Tuesday the sentencing of a Logan County man for possession and distribution of child pornography. A Logan Circuit Court judge sentenced 49-year-old Roger Dale Cropper on April 5, 2012 to seven years in prison after he pled guilty to one count of distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor and one count of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor. Cropper will also be required to register as a lifetime sex offender.
Commonweath Attorney Gail Guiling, who prosecuted the case, asked that Cropper be given probation and Circuit Judge Tyler Gill agreed with the request. Cropper will be on five years probation and will also have to be on a five-year conditional release as a sex offender once that time is up.
The charges against Cropper are the result of an undercover investigation that began on March 26, 2011 by Conway’s Cybercrimes Unit. A search warrant was executed on May 16, 2011 at Cropper’s Russellville residence, with the assistance of Russellville Police. A Logan Circuit Court grand jury issued an indictment against Cropper on July 29, 2011.
According to court documents, nine images of nude pre-pubescent females were found on Cropper’s computer.
Since its creation in June of 2008, General Conway’s Cybercrimes Unit has launched nearly 270 child pornography investigations and seized more than 300,000 child pornographic images and videos from the Internet. The unit is also a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.
