Lawrence Edwin “Ed” Gower, 64, of Lewisburg, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Springfield, Tenn. April 30, 1947, a son of the late Ben Williams (Doc) and Marguerite O’Neal Gower.

Mr. Gower graduated from Lewisburg High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He practiced pharmacy at and succeeded his father as owner of Gower Drug Store in Lewisburg. As a member of the Lewisburg United Methodist Church, Mr. Gower served as treasurer. For many years, Mr. Gower coached Little League basketball at Lewisburg Elementary School. He was active in local civic organizations, previously a member of the Logan County School Board and the Lewisburg Lion’s Club. He was presently serving on the Boards of Lewisburg Banking Company and Lewisburg Cemetery. In his retirement, Mr. Gower regularly enjoyed playing golf and tennis. He was also an avid traveler, exploring the Southwest United States and visiting many countries in Europe and North America.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Price Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Beechland Cemetery. Visitation began Friday, Feb. 3 after 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Danks Gower; his sons, John Gower of Los Angeles, Calif., Robbie Gower of Wenatchee, Wash., David Gower and wife Annie Welch of Minneapolis, Minn. and Patrick Gower of Lexington; his brother, Ben Williams “Bill” Gower and wife Joann of Henderson, and his sister, Lillian Gower and husband Michael Winn of Louisville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Beechland Cemetery or the Lewisburg United Methodist Church.
