But first Russellville had to contend with a sneaky good Franklin-Simpson team tonight their mission was to take care of business against the Wildcats and Lady 'Cats before they even thought about Logan County.
Mission accomplished.
The Lady Panthers played the comeback kids and pulled off a 41-38 victory. The Panthers destroyed Franklin's will after four hard nose quarters with a 56-38.
To kick off the night the Lady Panthers squared off against the Lady 'Cats. In the first quarter it looked like Franklin-Simpson had regained their dominant form and would run away with the game being up 16-6. But in the second quarter the Lady Panthers started to show some life as their press started to turn the 'Lady Cats over. The turnovers led to easy baskets as they started close the gap. Going into the break it was 22-16 Franklin, but the lead was far from safe.
In the third quarter the Lady Panthers continued chipping away at the lead. At the end of three the lead had dwindled down to 34-30. And to complete the comeback a big three pointer at the five minute mark gave the Lady Panthesr the lead they had fought hard for. They would stretch the lead to 40-36 but some late free throws seperated the Lady Panthers from a victory. Despite some shaky free throw shooting at the end the Lady panthers hung on for the win 41-38.
The Panthers and Wildcats took the night cap. In the first quarter defenses ruled as both team's offense couldn't get anything going but Russellville held a 9-8 lead after one quarter.
In the second quarter though the Panthers offense started rolling rattling off 11 straight points to push the lead to 25-11 at the end of the half.
In the second half though the Wildcats made their run and closed the gap to 28-27. But the Panthers held off the Wildcats and went into the fourth quarter up 33-27.
To start off the fourth quarter the Panthers went on a 14-2 run that shattered the will of the Wildcats. The end of the game was a mere formality as the Panthers wrapped up the 56-38 victory.
