There are times when most of us feel, as people call it, "stressed out." But what does "stressed out" really feel like? Some of the symptoms of being “stressed out” are feeling overwhelmed by life's daily expectations or not feeling physically relaxed, with our muscles tightened and our jaws are clinched tightly. We can feel pressure in our heads as we grind our teeth. Sometimes being “stressed out” shows up as a “tension headache.” Our breathing is rapid and shallow. We cannot concentrate on the task at hand. Sometimes we have insomnia or we sleep too much as a response to being overwhelmed. Some of us cry very easily or at least feel close to tears most of the time. Our bodies ache at times. We know we should eat better foods, but we crave cheap carbohydrates that give us an immediate lift only to slump in a short while. So what can we do to feel better, more relaxed, and in control of our emotions and our daily lives? What can we DO to feel LESS “stressed out” RIGHT NOW? Here are five easy steps that can bring relief and relaxation to our bodies and our minds.
