At its regular meeting Tuesday, the Russellville city council honored students who won an art contest, which will wind up as a mural on the large concrete wall at the city's water treatment plant.

The wall is currently somewhat “shabby,” according to mayor Gene Zick, so the council decided to let area students come up with designs for a mural to beautify the wall.

The surface is approximately 50-feet long and will be covered by a pair of murals - one that was designed by a Russellville High School student and one designed by a Logan County High School student.

“We couldn't pick just one, because they were all so good, so we decided to split the wall between the two schools,” Zick said.

Cooper Ray was chosen as the winning student from Russellville High School and Sarah Zibart was the winning student from Logan County High School. Jasmin Ewing was also honored as the runner-up from RHS.

The mural will be painted onto the wall as part of a school project involving students from both Russellville and Logan County high schools.
