Locally, scouts from Cub Scout Pack 303 and Boy Scout Troop 303 both of Russellville, Girl Scout Troops 211 of Auburn, 762 of Lewisburg, and 1440 also of Auburn, enjoyed the various activities offered over the weekend. Many units offered exhibitions during the afternoon that ranged from ice cream in a bag, animal tracks, first-aid, and spear throwing. There was also a living pioneer exhibit in which scouts and leaders could watch and learn.
The scouts participated in a fishing derby, experienced driving a bass boat with FLWs traveling fishing simulator, brushed up on their archery skills, and canoed or kayaked. Many competitions, such as Best Camp Gateway, Cleanest Camp Site, a 3rd Annual Cook-off, and the coveted Jigger Award, were also held. Several local troops brought home awards for their participation; Girl Scout Troop 211 of Auburn had two teams place in the Cook-off, one team consisting of Abby W., Angel D., Cambria F., and Louisa R., took third place in the Youth division with their Beef Stew, while the other team consisting of Brittany M., Cierra C., Katlyn P., and Kelana N., took first place with their Beef Roast. Girl Scout Troop 762 of Lewisburg had a team consisting of Amber D., Laila E., and Rachel P. who took home first place in the Adult division with their Mudslide. The top prize of the Golden Skillet came home with Dakota C. and Skyler D. of Boy Scout Troop 303 of Russellville, with their Peach Cobbler.
Units will soon be preparing for next year. For photos of past celebrations visit www.scoutcelebration.com
