Irby Eugene 'Jr' Dempsey, Jr., 79, of Adairville, died Saturday, March 5, 2005 at his home. Funeral services were Monday, March 7 at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Adairville with Brother James Neely officiating. Burial followed in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Todd Storks, John Lee Barnes, John Mason Barnes, Frank Sears, Fred Dempsey, and Clay Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Dempsey, Jeffrey Dempsey, Joe Barnes, Tony Barnes, Leslie Martin, and Matt Martin.

Mr. Dempsey was born Oct. 24, 1925 in Logan County to the late Irby Eugene and Bessie Lee Jennings Dempsey, Sr. He was a past employee of the Betts Funeral Home in Adairville and also the cities of Adairville and Auburn. He was a member of the Adairville Church of Christ.

Mr. Dempsey was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Virginia Dempsey.

Surviving Mr. Dempsey are his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jack Dempsey and Joetta of Bowling Green; his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Franklin Barnes of Adairville; his special friend and companion, Doye Edith Law; his grandchildren, Joe Barnes, Tony Barnes, Leslie Martin, John Dempsey, and Jeffrey Dempsey; his great-grandchildren, Brittany Martin, Baylee Martin, Hillary Slater, Lindsay Barnes, and Daniel Dempsey.
